After another nice breakfast on the rooftop of our riad, we went to pickup our rental car. It was a building with a paper sheet of the company’s name, it didn’t seem like a place where they rent cars and there was nobody there but anyway, everything worked out and so we were on our way to Ait Ben Haddou. It’s a very scenic ride up to the Atlas Mountains. we stopped at a place where they were showed us the production of Argan Oil, where we spent almost all of our cash. After some hours driving up and down the mountains we finally arrived to our destination. The car temperature showed 40 degrees and that at 5pm. Good that we decided to stay in the old Ksar where no electricity is available yet enjoying the real summer of Morocco without an A/C. We have payed the car and fuel and everything in cash, we were wrong to assume that a touristic spot like this has a bank or that day would take our credit card somewhere. So after a very warm welcome of Mohammed (owner of the beautifully restored Kasbah) we drove another hour to the next town and back to get money 🙂

There are many movies like Gladiator, prince of persia, the bible etc. which were filmed in this small but very nice and authentic spot full of typical earth buildings. Mohammed told us, that the village was built in the 12th century and that there are still 14 families living in it and also that they will get electricity soon. Nevertheless we had a really nice candle light dinner, enjoyed the clear sky with thousands of stars and had a tough night sleeping in a room which was even warmer than outside.

Next morning we started with a nice breakfast with homemade “tortillas” and just watched the people and animals passing by. After visiting the village we just moved on to our next stop Ourzazate…
